Entry Requirements:


The minimum age for registration for this programme is 19.

The college operates an ‘Open Access’ policy in respect of many of its vocational programmes but prospective students should note that the following entrance qualifications are recommended for those wishing to undertake the Diploma programmes:

  • One GCE A-level plus Three GCSEs (or equivalents)
  • A suitable BTEC National Award
  • Any qualification equivalent to one or more of the above.
  • The Diploma in Commercial Management (or an equivalent level business studies qualification)
  • A suitable BTEC National Award
  • Any business studies qualification equivalent to one of the above.

Applicants over the age of 20 who do not hold one of the recommended entrance qualifications may also register for the programme providing they have been in full-time employment for a minimum of two years.

Course Information:

In addition to providing a comprehensive knowledge of each of the major business functions, the structure of the course ensures that students have the widest possible range of career, employment and higher education options open to them on successful completion of their studies.

The programme objective is to provide prospective Commercial Management students with a body of knowledge which will:

  • increase their employment opportunities
  • prepare them for supervisory and management careers in industry and commerce and;
  • provide them with a qualification which will enable them to progress to higher level commercial management or specialised business/management programmes at a later stage in their business or academic careers.

The Graduate Diploma in Commercial Management programme is also suitable for working supervisors and managers who require recognised management qualifications for career advancement or promotion purposes.

Structure:

There are a total of 16 modules leading to full program awards which will be studied full time throughout the course duration, which include:

Year 1

  1. International Business Communications
  2. Business Management & Administration
  3. Interpreting & Analysing Information
  4. Marketing Principles
  5. Accounting Techniques
  6. Risk Management

Year 2

  1. Introduction to Business Law
  2. Contract Negotiations
  3. Strategic Management in Theory & Practice
  4. Marketing Planning & Decision Making
  5. Project Management
  6. Customer Service for Managers and Supervisors

Year 3

  1. Logistics and Supply Chain Management
  2. Financial Management
  3. Commercial Management Project
  4. The International Business Environment

Continuing Education
The Graduate Diploma in Management Studies may be offered as an entrance qualification for relevant degree studies and for entry to a wide range of MBA’s (subject to examination grades, age and work experience). A number of the subjects are also accepted for subject exemption and credit purposes by other examining bodies and universities.

Pharez College/ICM students can progress to University entry as follows:-

ICM Advanced Diploma Award - enable the student to apply for direct entry into the final year of a relevant 3 year degree programme.

ICM Graduate Diploma Award - enable the student to apply for direct entry to postgraduate (e.g. Masters) degree programmes.

Assessment is through External Examinations and a submission of project report.

This is a full time programme and students are required to attend 16 – 21 hours of supervised study per week.
